FAQ
Where do you find your shells?
The majority are found on Honeymoon Island. Some are from Clearwater or neighboring southern beaches.
Live Shelling?
No way! Besides, its against Florida law. Any shell that has a living creature inside gets placed back in the sea.
Did you find all your shells?
Some were from my private collection I’ve had for years, some were sent from South Padre Island, TX (thanks, Dad) and some were donated to me from friend’s and family.
Are those real pearls?
No, I disassembled an old necklace I had in my drawer. Haven’t found any real pearls yet.
How come your pots are different sizes?
I purchase the majority of the pots I work with however, I do visit thrift stores and garage sales looking for pots and other canvases to work on. If its something I’d use or like, chances are you would, too. Creativity can’t be limited by a size.
Where can I display my new pots?
Painted terra cotta pots with sculptures are best suited for indoor locations or covered exterior locations like a porch or lanai. Over time harsh sun, rain or freezing temperatures would be too much on the paint and adhesives I use.
How come some shells aren't broken?
I do use whole shells. Why not? They are beautiful, too, as you already know.
Do you find and use only shells?
I’ve found all sorts of treasures from the beach, including pieces of tile, bone, coral, fossils and a shark tooth.
Are the shell sculptures fragile?
Shells are inherently fragile. Some shell pieces such as conch apertures and cockles are less fragile than say, penshells and long-spined star shell curls. Please handle all of them with care, just like people.
Can you make something specific for me?
I’d be happy to discuss a custom piece. If you like a certain type of shell or color scheme that’s a great place to start. Please contact me!
