You’d have to ask my dad how long I’ve been creative AND drawn to the water, but I’m pretty sure he’d say all my life. Art in school years was always my favorite subject (and my mom saved most of it) and a vacation to the beach topped my list. When I took my first design class at Abilene Christian University, I knew I’d found my calling. I’d spend the next 30+ years as a graphic designer, at two retail design agencies then as the owner of Designancy, the advertising agency I ran in conjunction with my husband Rob. Bringing to life a customer’s vision of who they were in the form of corporate identity was icing on my design cake. It seems quite common that graphic designers evolve through the years and find a new creative outlet. This new chapter has begun for me.
Growing up near Houston found my family spending weekends in Galveston. I inherited from my dad the connection to the ocean but was only privileged enough to visit a beach through the years. Dreams were fulfilled when Rob and I relocated a few years ago to the Florida Gulf Coast. My new found creative outlet kind of fell into place combining design with treasures from the ocean’s Creator in a new and exciting way. Making the least of these beautiful again.
Through the years of traveling, Rob and I have collected many original works of art, mostly paintings and glass sculptures. If walls and shelves could talk, our souvenirs would speak of far away places with sweet memories. Many of our vacations involved water so our house is filled with beautiful artistic interpretations of the ocean and lakes. I hope my creations rekindle your emotional connection to the ocean, whether you live near it or just visit when you can. Bring home a new piece of the sea that is beached, broken and once again beautiful. – Nancy
